Eat Drink . . . Pais Vasco!

In October 2017 we traveled to the northeast coast of Spain, where Bob competed in the World Kneeboard Championships. Join me in congratulating Bob for winning his age division! The contest was at Somo, very close to Santander, where we visited the cool, artsy Centro Botin. On our way through the Basque Country, we stopped in Billbao and spent a few hours at the not-to-be-missed Guggenheim Museum. Later we made our way east to San Sebastian. Old Town San Sebastian is a veritable foodie’s dream. Everywhere you turn, there are restaurant/bars with beautiful tapas – or pintxos, as they are called in the Basque Country – on display. You simply point at what you want or plop them on your plate, savor the flavors, and pay at the end.

Our favorites always seemed to involve seafood, and they were as tasty as they were lovely. We also visited Barcelona, Lisbon, and the beaches of Portugal, where we had some great meals at fabulous prices, but nothing quite as special as the pintxos of Old Town San Sebastian!
